Plot Twist terms of use

These terms are the agreement between you and Vraj Patel, an individual in India who makes Plot Twist and trades as SideFixers ("we", "us" or "our" on this page). They cover the Plot Twist app on iPhone and Android, our game server, and anything you buy or earn in the game. Please read them, especially the sections on purchases, the Pass and its renewals, and what happens if things go wrong.

By downloading, opening or playing Plot Twist, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

Our privacy policy explains what we keep about you, why, and your rights over it. It forms part of this agreement.

1. Who can play

  • You must be at least 13, or older if the law where you live sets a higher age for using an app like this without a parent's consent.

  • If you're under 18, a parent or legal guardian must read and agree to these terms for you, and they're responsible for how you use Plot Twist, including anything bought on your phone. Please ask them before buying anything.

  • If you're a parent or guardian and you let a child under 18 use Plot Twist, you agree to these terms for them.

  • You need a phone that can run the app, and the internet for the daily films. Endless also works offline.

2. The game

Each day there's a hidden Hollywood film and a hidden Bollywood film, and you get ten guesses to find each one. A new pair arrives at midnight in the timezone your phone gives us.

Our server holds the answers and decides every result, streak, reward and balance, using its own clock. If the app on your phone and our server ever disagree, our server's record is the one that counts.

Film facts such as box office, studio, cast and age ratings come from outside sources and can be wrong or incomplete. We try to keep them right, but a mistake in a film's facts doesn't change a result or entitle anyone to a reward.

We keep improving Plot Twist, so features, rules, prices, rewards and the film schedule can change. We'll only make a change for a good reason, such as improving the game, fixing a fault, keeping it fair, following the law or a store's rules, or because a service we rely on changes. If a change takes away something you paid for, section 6 applies.

3. Your player and account

  • When you first open the app, our server makes you a player with a private ID. You can play as a guest, or sign in with Apple or Google to keep your progress if you change phones.

  • A guest's progress is tied to the app on that phone. If you delete the app or lose the phone without signing in, we can't bring the progress back.

  • A guest who hasn't opened the app for 12 months is deleted automatically, as the privacy policy explains.

  • Keep your phone and your Apple or Google sign-in secure. You're responsible for what happens on your player, unless it's our fault.

  • Your player is for you alone. Please don't sell, share, lend or transfer it.

  • You can delete your player and everything of yours at any time, in Settings, then Delete account.

4. Coins, freeze days and shields

  • Coins are the game's currency. You earn them by playing and can buy them in packs. You spend them on hints, freeze days and shields.

  • Coins, freeze days, shields, XP, levels and badges ("items") exist only in Plot Twist. They aren't money, have no value outside the game, and can't be cashed out, sold, swapped with other players or moved to another game or account.

  • You don't own items. We give you a personal, limited right to use them in Plot Twist. That right ends when your player is deleted, when this agreement ends, or when the game closes.

  • There are limits on how many items you can hold at once, such as five freeze days and one shield. The game shows these limits before you buy.

  • If a fault, a refund, a payment that's later reversed, or a broken rule gives you items you shouldn't have, we may remove them. We'll tell you in the app when we change your balance.

  • Coins don't expire while your player exists and the game is running.

5. Buying coins and the Pass

  • Apple or Google takes every payment, under their own terms and policies. We never see your card or bank details.

  • The price shown in the app is the store's price, in your currency, including any tax the store collects.

  • When you buy, the store asks you to confirm. The coins or the Pass reach your player straight away. By completing a purchase, you ask us to supply it immediately and accept that, once it has been supplied, you lose any legal right to cancel and get your money back just because you changed your mind, where the law allows that. This doesn't affect your rights if something is faulty or wasn't supplied.

  • Refunds are decided and paid by Apple or Google, under their policies. You can ask for one in your App Store or Google Play purchase history. If a purchase is refunded, we take back what it bought: any coins from that pack you haven't spent, or the Pass.

  • If something you paid for didn't arrive, or doesn't work as described, write to us with the store's receipt and we'll put it right, or help you get a refund from the store.

6. The Plot Twist Pass

The Pass gives you all six hints in every game, no ads, 3 freeze days a month, a shield every six months, and Cinephile difficulty in Endless. There are three kinds.

Monthly and yearly Passes renew automatically.

  • Each one keeps renewing at the end of its period, and the store charges you the price shown when you bought it, until you cancel.

  • To stop the next renewal, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.

  • You cancel in your phone's subscription settings. On iPhone: Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. On Android: the Google Play app, then your profile, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Settings in Plot Twist also has a Manage subscription link that takes you there.

  • Deleting the app or your player does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in the store first.

  • When you cancel, you keep the Pass until the end of the period you've paid for. Except where the law or the store gives you a refund, there's no refund for the rest of a period.

  • If we ever raise the price of a monthly or yearly Pass, the store will tell you first and, where its rules or the law require, ask you to agree. If you don't agree, the Pass ends at the end of your current period and you won't be charged the new price.

Free trial. The yearly Pass may start with a 7-day free trial, for people the store says haven't had one before. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the store starts charging the yearly price when it ends. The monthly freeze days and the six-monthly shield begin once the trial has turned into a paid Pass.

Lifetime Pass. You pay once, and the Pass lasts for as long as we run Plot Twist, not for your lifetime. If we close the game, see section 13.

What the Pass includes. We may add to the Pass, and we may change how a benefit works. We won't take away one of its main benefits from a paying member without telling you at least 30 days before. If we take away a main benefit you paid for and don't replace it with something of similar value, you can ask us for a fair partial refund for the time or value you've lost, and we'll arrange it with the store or pay it ourselves.

7. Ads and rewards

  • Plot Twist is free because of ads. You'll see a short ad after you finish a daily film or a replay, and you can choose to watch ads for rewards such as a hint, a saved streak or an extra guess in Endless. The Pass removes ads.

  • A reward is given only once the ad network confirms you watched the ad to the end. If an ad fails to load or doesn't confirm, no reward is given and you can try again. There are limits on rewarded ads, such as one saved streak a week.

  • Ads come from Google AdMob and the companies that bid through it. We don't control what each ad says, and an ad isn't our recommendation. If you're under 18, ads are never personalised. The privacy policy has the details.

8. Playing fair

When you use Plot Twist, please don't:

  • cheat, or use bots, scripts or any tool that plays for you, guesses for you or reads the answers;

  • exploit a bug or fault to gain coins, items, rewards or results (if you find one, please tell us; we're grateful);

  • copy, take apart, decompile, modify or try to get around how the app or our server works, or test its security without our written permission;

  • overload, disrupt or attack the app, our server or the services we use;

  • collect data from the game or our server in bulk, or make your own copy of the game or its film data;

  • use more than one player to gain an advantage, or use a player that isn't yours;

  • choose a profile or collection name that's abusive, hateful, sexual, threatening, pretends to be someone else, infringes someone's rights, or breaks the law;

  • use Plot Twist for anything illegal or commercial.

If you break these rules, we may remove items or rewards you gained, reset your progress, change your name, or suspend or delete your player. We'll act in proportion to what happened, and where we can, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to explain. If you think we got it wrong, write to us and we'll look again.

9. What belongs to whom

  • The game. Plot Twist's software, design, text, Ploty and our other artwork, sounds, and the name Plot Twist belong to us. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on phones you own or control, for your own non-commercial fun, under these terms.

  • Film information. Film details and pictures come from TMDB, and where-to-watch listings come from JustWatch. Film titles, posters, stills and photos belong to their studios, rights holders and the people pictured, and are shown to identify the films. Plot Twist uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

  • What you add. You keep your profile name, ratings and collection names. By adding them, you let us store, use and show them inside Plot Twist for as long as your player exists, so the game can work.

  • Sharing. You're welcome to share your result cards, watchlist entries and lists with friends, as the app lets you.

  • Ideas. If you send us a suggestion, we may use it freely, without paying you or naming you.

10. Other services and links

Plot Twist relies on other companies, such as Apple, Google, RevenueCat, the ad networks, TMDB and our hosting providers. Where-to-watch listings can open other companies' apps and websites. We don't control those services, and their own terms and policies apply when you use them.

11. Our promise, and its limits

We'll provide Plot Twist with reasonable care and skill, and the items you buy will be as we describe them. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, Plot Twist is provided "as is" and "as available". We can't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, free of faults, or right about every film. Games and servers sometimes go down, and the internet sometimes fails.

12. Responsibility for loss

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit or exclude. Nothing in them takes away your rights under consumer law where you live, such as rights to a remedy when digital content you paid for is faulty.

Apart from that, and as far as the law allows:

  • we aren't responsible for losses that weren't reasonably foreseeable when you agreed to these terms, for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control;

  • we aren't responsible for lost streaks, progress or items, except where we caused the loss and didn't put it right within a reasonable time;

  • we provide Plot Twist for personal use only, so we aren't responsible for any business loss, such as lost profit or lost business opportunity; and

  • our total responsibility to you for everything to do with Plot Twist is limited to the greater of what you paid for Plot Twist in the 12 months before the event that caused the claim, or ₹1,000 (or the same amount in your local currency).

13. If we change or close the game

We may change, pause or stop parts of Plot Twist, or close it altogether, for example if it's no longer practical to run. If we close it, we'll tell you in the app at least 30 days before, where we can. When the game closes:

  • monthly and yearly Passes stop renewing, and we'll arrange a refund for any part of a period you've paid for but can't use;

  • coins and items still unused have no cash value and won't be refunded, except where the law requires a refund for something you paid for;

  • the lifetime Pass ends, as section 6 explains.

14. Ending this agreement

You can end this agreement at any time by deleting your player in Settings, and by cancelling any subscription in the store.

We can end it, or suspend your player, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires us to, or if we close the game. Where we can, we'll tell you first and explain why.

When the agreement ends, your right to use Plot Twist and your items ends. Sections 4 (items aren't money), 9 (what belongs to whom), 11, 12, 16 and 17, and anything else that by its nature should, stay in force afterwards.

15. If you got Plot Twist from the App Store

If you downloaded Plot Twist from Apple's App Store, you also agree to Apple's standard licence for apps, and where it differs from these terms, these terms apply between you and us as far as Apple allows. These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for Plot Twist, its content, its maintenance or its support. If the app fails to meet a promise that applies to it, you can tell Apple, and Apple may refund the price you paid for the app, which for Plot Twist is nothing; Apple has no other duty to you about it. Apple isn't responsible for any claim about Plot Twist, including product liability, consumer protection or intellectual property claims; we are, as these terms set out. You confirm you aren't in a country under a US government embargo and aren't on a US list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.

If you downloaded Plot Twist from Google Play, Google's terms also apply to your use of Google Play, and Google isn't a party to these terms.

16. Complaints and disputes

If something goes wrong, please write to us first at contactsidefixers@gmail.com. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 48 hours and aim to resolve it within one month.

These terms follow the laws of India, and the courts at Vadodara, Gujarat, have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you're a consumer living outside India, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in your local courts where those laws allow. If you live in India, you can also take a complaint to the consumer commission that the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 allows.

17. General

  • Changes to these terms. We may update these terms for the reasons in section 2. We'll update the date at the top, and for a change that matters, tell you in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless the law requires a change sooner. If you keep playing after it takes effect, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can stop using Plot Twist, delete your player and cancel any subscription before the change takes effect, and section 6 applies to any refund.

  • Transferring this agreement. We may transfer our rights and duties under these terms to a company we set up to run Plot Twist, or to whoever takes over the game, and we'll tell you if we do. It won't reduce your rights. You can't transfer your rights to anyone else.

  • Events outside our control. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by things we can't reasonably control, such as outages at the services we rely on, internet failures, natural disasters or government action.

  • Whole agreement. These terms, the privacy policy, and any store terms that apply are the whole agreement between you and us about Plot Twist.

  • If part doesn't hold. If a court decides part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.

  • No waiver. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.

  • Language. These terms are written in English. If they're translated, the English version applies.

  • Messages to you. We'll contact you through the app, or by email if you've written to us.
